Doors and rear-view mirrors checking fixtures


The positioning of blinkers is defined both by its fixations and by its car environment (rearlamps). This is why blinkers checking fixtures must reproduce both characteristics: simulation blocks will simulate the fitting of the blinker on the rearlamp, while clipping systems will enable to mount the part as on the car.

The problems that may occurr when producing mirror feet are variable, depending on the material used and of the shape of the part: deformation of the part surface, unproper location of its fixation points, etc. To make sure that all the potential deformations of the part will be detected, we recommend to use a fixture simulating as much as possible the vehicle conditions of fitting of the part, as much for its fixation points as for its vehicle environment. A CMM version of this fixture may, however, be helpful for the measurement by CMM machine of the first injected parts of your series.

In spite of not being a visible part from the rear-view mirror assembly, tourillions are crucial for the proper fitting and functioning of the assembly and have a direct impact on the final aspect of the rear-view mirror.

Rear-View Mirror Assembly

Two factors affect the positioning of the rear-view mirror assembly: the door bodyside - where the part is mounted -, and the rubber gaskets surrounding the mirror to conform it. Mirror assembly checking fixtures must simulate both conditions for a proper control of their dimensional conformity and positioning.

Sealing gaskets can be of various shapes and complexities: depending on their location and function, their positioning and control will be different, which will affect the complexity of their checking fixtures.

Rear-view mirror Housing

Rear-view mirror housings can either be controlled as single parts, or as two separated parts (housing bracket and housing), depending on the design of the rear-view mirror. The critical aspects usually controlled in this type of part are: the outline deformation, the fitting with the mirror assembly components, and the location and/or diameter of the part fixation holes. These features can be controlled either by Go/No Go controls, or by dial indicators.

Depending on the design of the rear-view mirror assembly, housing brackets are produced as single components and in plastic or metal, or as part of the mirror housing.  The main features to be checked on these parts is their mountability and the location of their fixation holes.

Rear-view mirror backplate

If the left and right backplates have the same centring area, the same checking fixture can be used to check the left and right parts by simply turning over the control block. The centring area is mounted on a spring guided system. To check the part, the user simply centres it and pushes it down: if the part fits inside the control block, it is OK.
